Semester Review Fall 2013

This semester has been especially active for the GVSU Tuba/Euphonium studio. We put on the 2nd annual Octubafest, which was a four night concert series this year. The first three nights featured every student as a soloist, and the final night featured several in small ensemble performances including a freshman tuba quartet, the Glass Euphonium Quartet, the Bassment Boys, and Brass Action Quintet.

This semester we also welcomed Demondrae Thurman, international virtuoso euphonist and professor at Samford University, for a master class. He worked with each euphonist and offered insight ranging from technical improvement to music analysis to dealing with nerves.

We are anticipating next semester, which will bring more improvement and several senior recitals.

Welcome Back!

This year the GVSU studio welcomes Ricky Maycroft, Nick Holden, Kylie Hearn, Käse Knochenhauer, Casey Zimmerman, and Emily Hamel, as well as Douglas Olmstead, who is returning from advanced training with the Army.

The first studio event scheduled is Octubafest: a GVSU tradition featuring the tuba euphonium studio. This year it will take place from Oct. 22nd to Oct. 25th. Keep an eye out for more details posted here.
